Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire, a quiet area in The West Island of Montreal is what you might call a "sleepy" place. It is the West Island, to those who are unfamiliar with it, is an extensive area that extends from Lachine until the west. The West Island is frequently referred to as being the place of birth for Amanda Brugel but while that is the case, her time in the city was brief. Brugel was raised in Courtice near Oshawa Ontario. She wanted to become a professional dancer but due to an explosive increase in her height, she outgrew the dance partners she had. In an article published by Toronto Star, she revealed her height in heels as 6 foot 1 inches tall. As I grew older than my male companions, I quit. Many former dancers turn to acting and in the instance of Brugel, it was an urging from her high school teacher of drama. She was encouraged to audition for a part in the school's production. She was chosen to play the main role of Anne of Green Gables after she tried out. Following her award of the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship, she attended York University and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in 2000. Since then, Brugel has been in over 60 productions both big and small. One of the most memorable was when she landed the role of Rita on The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel is the sole Canadian of the season 1 cast of the show and seen only occasionally, was the only Canadian.
